For Immediate Release: Republican Candidate for Texas House District 17, Stan Gerdes, Sues to Remove Independent Challenger, Linda Curtis, from November Ballot

Tuesday, September 13, Bastrop, TX: Longtime Rick Perry employee Stan Gerdes, the Republican nominee for Texas House District 17 (Bastrop, Burleson, Caldwell, Lee, and Milam counties), is suing the Secretary of State to remove Linda Curtis, his independent challenger, from the ballot. The challenge is taken by three law firms, including the Chair of the Texas House Elections Committee, Briscoe Cain. The parties in this litigation are:

  • Republican Candidate Stan Gerdes (represented by Rep. Briscoe Cain, Elizabeth Alvarez, and Eric Opiela)

  • Independent Candidate Linda Curtis (represented by Bill Aleshire)

  • Secretary of State John Scott (represented by Asst. Attorney General Kathleen Hunker) The Honorable Judge Mangrum, the presiding judge of the Travis County 200th District Court, was assigned this case.
